Started the day inside on the computrainer where I took a shellacking. Rained most of the morning and had the first thunder boomers of the season. Took the mountain bike out for a short ride late in the afternoon when the sun came out. Headed into town and planned on heading to Watkins but the sky was very dark to the north, and it looked like it was still raining. Decided to stay in the sun and headed up the bike trail to Millport. Wind was blowing at a good clip from the south, but I was sheltered by the forest along the trail. Legs felt surprisingly strong despite tapping them out in the morning. Passed a couple of riders on the trail that were peddling with a cadence most likely less than twenty. Thought about suggesting to them that they should shift down since they both had multi-speed bikes but then decided to keep my trap shut. It is so easy to offend people nowadays I doubt these youngsters would appreciate any comments from an old codger. Hopefully they enjoyed themselves, but it did look painful. Got to Millport and noticed the thunder clouds had followed me up the valley and it started to sprinkle. Stopped and checked the radar map and saw that there was a band of storms traveling south and that it would take about a half hour to pass. I would have ridden through it but had neglected to pack my cellphone in a plastic baggie and thought I might damage it if it rained too hard. Had the bright idea to stop on the highway overpass bridge south of Millport and wait out the storm band. Got to the bridge and it had a roof as I remembered but unfortunately the roof was made of a chain link fence. As it started to rain harder, I opted plan B that was to wait it out at the Town of Veteran offices. Turns out they had a covered section with a bench for the smokers. Worked well for me and spent a half hour waiting for the storm to pass. The temperature dropped ten degrees during the storm and the wind died down and started to change direction. Rode hard down the highway on the way home. Decided to ride up the bottom of Havana Glen Hill rather than go back through town. It cuts off a little over a mile that doesn't seem like much but since the sun hadn't returned, I was wet and getting cold. Turned out to be an enjoyable ride despite the half hour delay watching it rain.
